System Description
• HazardAvert® systems includes a Proximity Module, a Vehicle Warning Module, and a
Mounting Kit
• An optional Vehicle Alarm Device (VAD) can be added to the Proximity Module to
warn operators of possible collisions with other VAD equipped forklifts.
• PADs are purchased separately in the number required.
• Multiple HazardAvert® systems and multiple PADs can be used in the same work environment without conflicting signals or false alarms
• Workers are warned only when their safety is jeopardized
Low Frequency Marker Zones for High Stability
• Metallic objects within the field have little effect on zone size and shape
• Does not multi-path as occurs with proximity systems employing higher frequencies
• Reliable, helps eliminate nuisance alarms
Easy Installation
• Only two components install on forklift (proximity module and warning module)
• Basic Mounting Kit readily attaches hardware to most forklifts.
• Optional Mounting Kits available for forklifts if more than the Basic Kit is needed
• Only connection to the forklift electrical system is power
• Warning zones can be adjusted within limits of Proximity Module
• A 12v battery provides a proximity Danger Zone between 4 and 12 meters
• A 24v battery provides a proximity Danger Zone between 5 and 15 meters
Proximity Modules
• Compact, weather tight housing
• Multiple mounting options
• Proximity Module requires no further calibration after initial installation
PADs - Personal Alarm Device
• Compact size, lightweight - attaches to hard hat, cap or clothing
• Audio and visual alarms given when a danger zone is breeched
• 2 Warning Modules are available with differing battery life between
charges; (Standard Model 500mAh ; and Optional Model 1400mAh
• PADs require no calibration during installation or operation
Silent Zone Inside Safety Cage
• Inside the forklift safety cage, the operator’s PAD will not trigger an alarm
• Once out of the forklift’s safety cage, operators are protected just as
other “on-foot” workers
One of the benefits to using low frequency, magnetic field technology is the ability to adapt to multiple environments. For the past couple of years the HazardAvert system has been developed to include most industrial machinery; underground and surface. Among these are forklifts.
The forklift seems on the surface to require a relatively simple application for proximity detection, however the operational parameters of forklifts complicate the design. By nature, forklifts function in environments unique among other types of equipment. They are among the most prevalent of industrial machinery world wide, and can operate within tight confines as well as around large groups of people. Couple that with their speed, weight and agility and it is easy to see how they post such large numbers in terms of injuries and deaths related to contact events.
The objective for FEP was not only to produce a system that addressed the special needs that a forklift provides, but also develop one that was easy to use, simple to install, and one that could operate in most environments, yet remain cost effective. The result is the HazardAvert System for Forklifts. It alerts on-foot workers and forklift operators of potential collisions. Forklift systems also have an option that will alert operators of HazardAvert equipped forklifts of collisions with each other as well.
